Program Philosophy
Wee Wings Montessori seeks to educate the whole child, body, mind, and spirit, by providing a quality, personalized learning experience in a nurturing atmosphere, and by respecting the uniqueness of each child.
Belief Statements:
- We believe education involves all aspects of the whole person: emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual.
- We believe each child is unique, has worth, and deserves to be honored.
- We believe that a prepared environment positively effects learning and leads children to become independent thinkers who are self-motivated, continuous learners.
- We believe in learning as a process based on life’s experience.
- We believe that children learn more effectively in an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation where peace and nonviolence are encouraged.
Curriculum and Classroom
Wee Wings Montessori adheres to the traditional Montessori Pre-Primary Curriculum which includes comprehensive experiences in Language, Everyday Living, Math, Sensorial, Science, Geography & Cultural Studies, and Peace Education. We also include many additional educational opportunities such as Foreign Language, Art, Music, and year-round outdoor play including gardening and woodworking. The Montessori Pre-Primary Curriculum is based on the guidelines of the American Montessori Society.
The Montessori classroom is constructed in a way that allows each child to work according to his/her present abilities while encouraging pursuit of more challenging activities. Children move themselves toward learning by using developmentally appropriate materials and working at each task as long as necessary to achieve mastery. The teacher prepares the environment, serves as an overseer, and offers varying stimuli to each child depending upon his/her immediate needs. The child thus learns and is motivated through his/her work.
